What has been your experience with pets in KSA? Mainly westerners tend to keep dogs since they are considered dirty by many. However, I know many Saudi friends who either have a pet dog or like them very much. Even more have cats instead. I personally like em both.
The last time I visited a pet shop in Riyadh I was surprised by the many kinds of pets available. However, I also noticed that many of them did not seem at peak health. I suppose this could be common in many pet shops outside of KSA as well.
Has anyone brought a pet with them to KSA or brought one back from KSA before?

I'm still curious about anyone's experience in bringing a pet to or from KSA.
Thanks!

One reason I haven't yet succumbed to the economic pressure and applied to Saudi schools...I don't want to stress my schnauzer. He's lived in 6 different countries so far, but I think he'd be very restricted in Saudi in terms of recreational opps....here in the Netherlands, he's welcome in 90% of restaurants and most shops as well. Public transit, no problem.
My Saudi students here mostly think dogs are dirty (I remember the evening I was seen with two other women plus the dog at a bar - they tried to be tactful the next day in class, but this incident was clearly big news that quickly spread among the whole Saudi population here at our uni). However, I've got a couple who are familiar with, and like, hunting dogs at least.
I reckon it would be easier to have a cat in the ME overall. They're a bit more content At Home, and probably a lot more socially acceptable. I basically imagine it's a dull life for a dog.
However, I have a friend in S. Korea with a doglet similar to your avatar, who's literally never left their flat in her life!! Presumably everyone's happy with this arrangement, but it wouldn't work for my well-traveled friend. |
