Hi, just want some advice regarding my chances of finding an English teaching job somewhere in Latin America without having to travel to South America before obtaining a job.

My boyfriend and I (Australian) are currently in China, teaching at a university and this is our 2nd year in China. He has a BA in history, French and political science and at the end of this academic year, two years of teaching experience. I have a BA in Chinese and history as well as a BEd in TESOL, Social Studies and Chinese. At the end of our contract I would have completed about 3 years of teaching (2 years in China and about 1 year in Australian High Schools). I should also mention that I am a Chinese Australia, does this affect my chances of getting a job in South America?

We will finish our contract in June of 2010, when do the school semesters begin in the South American countries which we are most likely to find a job? Also, what are the countries we would most likely find a job?

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you!

I'd say Mexico is your best bet. Otherwise, most places require you to be in country.

Just out of curiosity, how did your boyfriend have so many majors? History, french and poly sci? Must have took him a while to finish.

About being Chinese Australian, we'd have to know a bit more about you. When did you go to AUstralia?

Semesters begin around March and Aug, but institutes hire year round

In our university you could choose up to three majors per Degree. I am an Australian citizen and have lived in Australia since I was 5 years old, therefore my first language is English.
