I know most language schools where I live take anyone they can get. They all seem to have similar packages, not Sat work, 25 teaching hours, holidays, flights, shared housing, all KITAS organised (properly) and all have good reps, so EF is really the bottom of the barrel compared to them. |
I'm looking for a good place to work, can you tell me the names of some of those schools you've said that take "anyone" I dont have my degree yet but I've done some course work |

I keep seeing a repeat on this forum, all the same kind of "I want to go to Indonesia and teach but am limited to only EF schools which are supposedly awful," woeful thoughts-- and I have them too-- I am headed to teach at BSD Tangerang in January 2010 and have completely abolished my expectations-- I figure that I am the sole creator of my reality therefore if I remain positive and have no expectations and don't worry about things that I can't control it will be the incredible TEFL/Indo experience that I am dreaming about--- Salary certainly isn't the reason to come to Indonesia, or at least it is not for me, there would be better options, its to be part of the cultural community and take a break from where ever your job lies now and move on and learn from whatever the islands have to offer-- If EF does things differently and their morale is a tad shifty, than so be it, its a learning experience, its only a job, and itll be over before you know it-- it can't be that bad, or at least thats what I keep telling myself. There are cons, I'm sure, but what and where is perfect? Learn from the things you don't enjoy, make them better |

Ashanmari, you are absolutely right in your attitude toward coming to Indonesia. You are indeed the author of your own happiness. Having said that, I hope you will be pleasantly surprised with BSD-Tangerang.
If you contact our HR office, they will give you my email address. Please feel free to email me and I will do my best to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

I have accepted a position with EF Swara; I was asked to list my assignment preferences between EF Tanjung Duren, BSD Tangerang, Gading Serpong, Cengkareng or Puri. Anyone with experience have a suggestion? |

No experience with any of the places you have mentioned, but BSD Tangerang is far away from the action. Cengkareng is quite far from central Jakarta, as well. There are many different Puris, so you would have to specify. EF Tanjung Duren is the head branch for EF Swara as far as I know, and Kelapa Gading/Serpong is a fairly nice location in terms of the surrounding malls/entertainment. |

Nope, I was completely wrong. I read it as "Gading/Sunter." Have no clue where Gading Serpong is. |

Gading Serpong is part of Tangerang just outside of Jakarta. It is about 50 mins to the centre of Jakarta. It is very urban and a little less hetic than many other places around the city. |

Thanks for your reply samoht--
I agree, there is much more to a job than money, and to be honest, I'm definitely not traveling to Indonesia to get rich =p
I have heard great things about EF BSD from the people who work/have worked there hopefully I can add to the positivity.
I am glad that you had a positive experience with EF Pluit =) |
