I'm wondering whether my boyfriend could get a dependant visa in China if I go as a teacher. Could anyone enlighten me? Can a guy be considered dependant? Do we have to be married? Thanks!
I forgot: This would be while he's learning Mandarin and looking for work in his field (not teaching). Thanks for any info on this! |

Buttercup,
your boyfriend just isn't a dependant, and you just can't realistically expect the consulate or the PSB in China to give him such a visa!
On the other hand, he can easily obtain a six month tourist or business visa, if not in his home country then definitely in Hong Kong. It will take only one day, cost some 700 HK dollars and he will have to supply one passport picture.
He can have one extension of up to one month from the mainland authority in charge of extending visas.
Your boyfriend cannot work in CHina, at least not legally, and there is no job market except for teachers.
Most employers are somewhat tolerant of unmarried Western couuples (but not always of unmarried and mixed-nationality couples involving a CHinese national). |
