Thank you for all the replies, I'm finding the "English Club" website very helpful!
What are some other sites with grammar quizzes? I've found hundreds that ask you to insert the correct word etc..., but I know most of the answers already just from familiarity with the bloody language!
I'm looking for websites that ask me to name the correct tense, grammatical term etc...
Anyway I am still working hard brushing up on grammatical terms but it can be a tad overwhelming with all these exceptions to the rules and whatnot!
With regards to my attitude, well I have to be realistic with myself, I know I'm not presenting the CELTA staff with any educational credentials, I finished high school and then went on to work 60hrs+ every week since I can remember.
Currently I'm unemployed and am choosing to stay this way so that I can dedicate myself 100% to teaching overseas - but again I must stress that for somebody with no experience whatsoever in the industry, the course isn't really presenting itself as being aimed at beginners!

I know the feeling of being long-term unemployed: the longest continuous period I was unemployed back in my native England was about 2 1/2 years (from Dec. 1995 to April 1998).
I was also unemployed throughout the period when I took my Trinity College Certificate in TESOL part-time over 31 weeks in the academic year 2000-01 at my local adult education college in south-east England.
Although I then did a summer school in southern England within weeks of completing the qualification, I was soon back on the dole!
I therefore finally upped sticks (against my mother's strongest objections) and headed eastwards to China (in late Oct. '01), which was a completely unknown quantity to me at the time, in order to escape the possibility of further long-term unemployment. That lasted for the next two years, at the end of which time (in Oct. '03) I returned to England in the somewhat naive hope that I could be employed as an ESOL teacher.
Eight weeks later and with a job lined up, I went back to China (in Dec. '03), where I have remained ever since. |

Well actually I do have two jobs on the books, I'm a casual worker and I also work in live entertainment doing random jobs for all the big international acts, however when I work I tend to become somewhat of a workaholic I guess and put all my interests behind me and burn myself out.
So since I've returned from overseas I've decided that while I've still got a reasonable amount of money I'm going to take the time out and decide what I want to do and go for it. I could easily get work tonight if I wanted to!

Just saying thanks again for all the help!
Had my first CELTA interview today and got accepted! Honestly the interview was nothing more than a conversation really, the lady was impressed with my language awareness and my knowledge of grammar. I only had one task which was "how would you use these pictures in the classroom". Easy.
Only issue is that the course might not go ahead due to lack of numbers, and I haven't heard back from my other CELTA applications.
Perhaps I got lucky, but from all the horror stories I have read about CELTA I honestly do believe that it's blown WAY out of proportion!

| It is definitely something a beginner with no classroom experience can do and do well. My CELTA class had 4 current teachers and 5 with no experience at all. Do the pre-course assignment and set aside the time for 4 uninterrupted weeks. First week is not bad, 2nd ramps it up and by week 3 you are going to be busy. |
