Dear tacomaboywa,
But I doubt that KFUPM has used or will use recruiters,

I hope so. The more places that don't use them the better.

It seems Americans have an advantage here thanks to the federal system of government. If I were convicted of a misdemeanor--or perhaps even a felony--in East Podunck, New Jersey, that's not within the police or criminal background check jurisdiction of, say, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania--and my Pennsylvania background check would come up clean. Which is acceptable to the Saudis. So far they have not insisted on any FBI check. Local jurisdicational checks are fine. |
I am very curious what the penalty would be if someone did this and somebody found out about it later. |

Most places that ask for a criminal check are looking for felonies and especially sexual abuse/rape or crimes against children as a result of the Canadian pedophile caught in Thailand several years ago.
That PA criminal check is one of the easiest in the country to obtain by the way. If you have a PA address you can get that check online for $10.00 in about 5 minutes. The thing you print looks like it has a watermark embedded. To use that in Korea & other places you need to have an apostile applied which involves a notary seal and an apostile. That part is not so easy in PA. |

Well, the KSA has required background checks for decades, I think. Certainly in 1992 when I last went there. Canadian pedophile caught in Thailand? I don't know how many are caught, but the place seems to be crawling with fat sleazy bald western pedophiles. |

This guy is who I was talking about. In addition to being a pedophile; he was stupid. After Interpol restored his face from the digitally altered images of himself molesting young boys he posted online he had to go on the run. He was spotted belatedly, apparently by Korean police reviewing airport security cameras, leaving Busan, Korea where he had been teaching children, for Thailand where he was being pursued. Now that was stupid! I've been to Thailand & it most certainly is NOT some place where I would want to be incarcerated. That also was the country where he was being sought for gay child molestation so why on earth did he go back there?
He probably could have gone home to Canada & just laid low because not too many Canadians read the things where his picture was posted. He probably could have lived a long time or even forever not being caught unless he continued his repulsive behavior.
Because I've always come to KSA on an illegal visa I've never had the criminal check for here but I wonder what would happen if KSA ever cross referenced all these Business Visas & Government Visit Visas against the schools and companies employing all those people like many reading here? Would that "criminal" behavior show up on a criminal records check anyplace? How about for the employers? They would have to use all their "wasta" just to stay in business or out of jail. |

Reading this set me thinking about having the criminal record check after working here and returning to teach elsewhwre. |
Uncle Scott, are you seriously thinking to teach elsewhere? Isn't the Magic Kingdom the best option for you? |

Feline 007
My thoughts are entirely altruistic. I am thinking of my fellows. Humans that is, not felines. |

Uncle Scott, felines, unlike some dogs, are always friend to humans.
Merry Christmas from your friend the feline who is trapped in the middle of snow somewhere between Glasgow and London! |

Hm. It is reported to me that the Prophet liked cats. On this occasion since it is Christmas Scrooge47 will relent and wish 007 the Compliments of the Season.
I feel sorry for anyone condemned to live in Manchester or Birmingham. |
