Hello Everyone,
I have recently been in contact with Expertise Education and am looking to sign a contract for February 2010. I was just wondering if anyone had previously worked for them, in Beijing, or know of any experiences that they could share. I am also slightly concerned that the 5000RMB/month will not be enough to support myself. Any insight would be appreciated!
Thanks! |

Checked out their website and it looks to be just another recruiter that will take half of your salary and give nothing in return. It's so easy to find a job direct with a school...why not just do that? Why sign your life away to some greasy Chinese guy who will use you at every moment?
Even with housing provided I would venture to say that 5,000 RMB per month is not much in Beijing. How many hours are you gonna have to teach per week to get this salary? Probably 25, right? I wouldn't bother.
For those who are interested here is the website:

Nice page with all the smiling foreigners...classic. |

I seem to be having quite a difficult time finding a position in Beijing/Shanghai in direct contact with schools. Any suggestions? |

Seriously, just to echo thefuzz, why pay a middleman/woman to do something you can easily sort yourself? |
It depends on the service that the recruiter offers, doesnt it?
Most professional jobs here in Australia are offered via recruiters mainly because it saves companies money.
There are reasons why a Chinese school or an ESL teacher may go through a recruiter.
A Chinese school may want a recruitment company to sort the chaff from the wheat. Obviously, one must assume that the Chinese company cares about the quality of teaching it offers to its clients. Another reason is the quality guarantee that a recruiter may offer the school.
A teacher may want to go through a recruiter because, if the recruiter is doing its job, it may have screened schools and made sure that the jobs it recruits for are at reputable and reliable companies. A recruiter may have a native English speaker better able to speak to potential teachers about the role than a local employee of the school. A recruiter may also offer guarantees to a teacher should things sour with the employer, or at the very least offer advice if there is a problem.
There are a lot of dubious schools and recruitment agencies operating which I am guessing is the reason for all this cynicism, and that is fair enough. But at the same time to dismiss a company or business without any prior knowledge of how the company operates is not right and it is quite irresponsible.
At the end of the day it is up to the potential candidate to choose and size up what a recruitment company offers and for them to discern whether it is for them or not |
