Just wondering if any of you could provide me with any info on your working conditions? More specifically:

-Hours of contact time per day/week
-Class sizes
-Resources available
-Ratio of kids' to high school/adult classes
-Amount of weekend work required
-Ratio of academic work to games required in classes
-Typical working hours

...?

I'm currently working for EF Surabaya, who over the last six months I've found to be a great organisation that I've mostly thoroughly enjoyed working for. However, I'm currently in two minds about whether to return to England next year or move to Jakarta, and I'm thinking that if I do move Indo's most expensive city then I'd prefer to look for schools that pay a little more than EF. However I've had such a positive experience with EF that I'm a little worried that I may be in for a shock if I move to another group. I'd love it if you could give me some idea as to what the other language schools out there are like!

Cheers. Smile

From what I've gathered, the EFs (which I believe are all part of the same group) in Surabaya are waaaaay better than most other EFs out there, as far as employee satisfaction goes. Many people will tell you their experience with EF 'language mills' was the worst experience of their lives, but my friends in Surabaya seem to be pretty happy!! I assume the EF group there has their act together, which is probably not the norm. Also, from my personal experience, it seems that EF almost always offers the lowest salaries for comparable jobs in the same location. I thought I was teaching a lot of hours and getting low pay until I heard what my EF friends in Medan had going on.

As far as I know, EF in Surabaya does offer the lowest salary of any language school in the city. However, compared to other EFs I've heard about Surabaya's salary is one of the highest. Another reason why I'd consider looking at other schools if I moved to Jakarta, as I believe the EFs there pay less than they do here.

Shame though, I'll miss EF Sub. Just a pity the same group don't run the Jakarta branches!
