Looks like you've been victimized again - if it was the neighbor, a work colleague and like you an employee of the school, who was making the noise - then why was it you who was encouraged to move?
In such a situation I hardly call it respect for my work to be bought off with money and then being left with the chore of upping sticks and finding a new place to live - I'd at least of hope my boss would persuade my neighbor, his employee to also show respect and tone down the noise.
Dear me is this a case of a famous newbie blunder?????????????????? |

Respect for my work? LOLOLOL are you kidding? These people despise me. They only keep me around because they can skim off the reimbursement from the gov't, which they deny they receive.
If they are not profitting from my presence, then my status here puzzles me. They have never indicated any respect. I was denied a raise in the past because "He's an American. They brought a financial crisis on the world."
The Chinese are starting to get wise to the fact that America is a shambles. Wars, terrorists, financial catastrophe, guns, marauding gangmembers killing people in the street, an asinine judicial system, and so forth.
If the principal can that easily offer me a thousand, there must be more where that came from. Actually, the principal of this school has always exhibited fairness in his dealings with me. The others, well, it's kind of a Mexican stand off. I'm happy to stay here because I like the wushu. They are happy to have me around because it, apparently, offers them a chance to line their pockets with gray money. They're welcome to it.
As for you, you appear to be simply trolling, looking to belittle, demean, abuse your peers from behind the safety of a computer screen. Type away. You'll get yours. |

?????????
Something I can't understand is why a wushu expert would need to have a shovel handle when going to visit a noisy neighbor - some type of cunning oriental weapon??????? |

I think there definitely are lessons here for anyone thinking about coming to teach English in China.
Sometimes living conditions here are quite different to back home, noisy, disruptive, whatever, no real surprises there.
The important lesson to take from this thread are that there are so many CRAZY WEIRDO FOREIGN TEACHERS that you will be working with! Some of them will make creepy comments (or actions) regarding locals, they may fly off the handle for no reason, some will probably be alcoholics and some will have crazy eyes that the Chinese might not pick up as easily as you will.
And some of your colleagues will also be lovely. |

Actually I think the lesson is timeless and simple: Do what you can, with what you have, where you're at. You are not the same type of person who preceded you, nor are you the type of person who will come after you. You have no gun to your head to bring you here, no gun to your head to keep you here. Make the best of any situation, trust your gut instincts and never put up with more than your own personal 'bottom line'. You are not a local farmer who makes (and can live on) 500 RMB/mo, nor are you a nuclear scientist who can command (and deserves) to be treated like royalty. You will never be Chinese or accepted as such. You are here as a guest and like fish, you will start to smell after a while, no matter how palatable you think you are. There are always other people who think they could do a better job than you for less. Let them. You are on somebody's "List of things to do today."
Lemme know if I've missed any cliches.
Cheers! And let's all be harmonious (if I hear that word again, I will puke my 250 lbs of guts out). |
