I have had several teachers tell me that if this director was at any other college besides MZ/Ruwais they would ask to transfer to work for him.

Jes' go ahead and add another one. I'd transfer in a heartbeat!

Yeah, the number 1 guy in MZ is okay and plays "good cop". The number 2 guy is a stick in the mud and plays "bad cop". And so it goes...

No no news about a Jan start (but the role I applied to isnt a teaching role).
2 colleges yet to decide - or they may have already decided its a no for me!
The chances of me starting anywhere in HCT in Jan 2010 are extremely slim - I have to give an absolute minimum 3 months notice where I currently work.
have you applied hev1? where? what role for? been interviewed?
[oops - I can see your thread now]
is it for a teaching role?
cheers

Hi hw2009,
Yes, I applied sometime in May/ June and subsquently attended the Video conference interview; result...'interview passed' with the vague statement...was told one of the colleges was interested but nothing since.... I ve got to give a month's notice but my partner is bound for six weeks... so for Jan start, things look feeble now.
I think there are quite a lot of us in the pool or a whirlpool...
Good wishes,

Heyevery1.
HCT (and the gulf in general) are not known for preplanning or having HR work fast.
This is the ultimate hurry up and wait culture. HURRY UP to get your paperwork done. HURRY UP to be inteviewed. WAIT to find out where you are going. WAIT with no contact until about a week before you are supposed to leave. WAIT to the last day for your tickets to arrive. HURRY UP to catch your flights. |

Your application process is almost identical to mine!
Applied in June - interviewed in October - and waiting in November!
I don't think they inform you if all of the 'available slots' (ie. the role I applied for was for 3 colleges, 1 had already been taken, the other 2 have 'yet to decide') have been taken - so we could be left in limbo!
Good luck - and let us know if/when you hear anything!
For those being interviewed - the type of questions I got asked (bear in mind it wasn't for a teaching role) were the usual -
- what does a typical day look like for you in your current role
- 'oh you seem to like big vibrant cities' how would you feel if you didn't live in a city
- and then some questions regarding specifics of my particular field (a few technical jargon and three letter acronyms thrown in the conversation to see whether I understood what they were talking about)
- a few things like - how would you recommend we change things here based on your experiences
like I say, the role I applied to wasn't a teaching role - if you scroll back to my original post you'll see what type of role it was...
good luck

Hi,
Wow - the view count for this post has gone up since I last checked (and since I started it in June it looked like it got peoples attention....HCT....Salary.....seem to be a topic that many people are curious about!)
DId you here anything back from HCT heyevery1?
I havent - so I'm taking it as 'passed interview' but 'no offer'. I had good feelings about this too - ah well. I guess if anything comes up in the next few months, they may pick me out of the 'pool' - but I wont hold my breath.
I cant believe I applied for this 6 months ago!
Any ideas where I should be now focussing my search for employment in the UAE and beyond for the type of work I'm looking (and qualified) for?
cheers for any helpful hints/tips. And thanks jpoindexter14 for your heads up about a relatively similiar role in Qatar - I hope your move to the UAE goes well.
cheers,

Hi all once again!
I wonder whether it is possible to be offered employment at HCT many months after a successful interview?
I had an interview in October 2009 - and was given the thumbs up, but alas no offer of employment came from it.
Has anyone here been in a similiar situation - interviewed succesfully late on in the year, and been contacted out of the blue for August/September then next year?
And how long are "succesful applicants" held in the 'pool'?
Cheers,

Hello once again!!!!
I "turned down" a job interview with HCT in Jan/Feb 2010 after a "succesful, you have been selected towork for us but we're not sure where etc" interview in October 2009 which I "passed" and was waiting for an offer. check back this discussion/and my other posts for info (it wasnt a "teacher" role specificaly).
Now, I've been told, I was a good candidate - I had the neccesary qualifications (a Bsc (hons), an MA in a education field, 9 years working in a University, 4 years working in the IT industry) and that I could apply again in the future for similiar positions at HCT. This was for a non-teaching role.
My wife, is studyin/working to be a NQT (newly qualified teacher). She currently works as a school classroom technician in food and textiles ---- she will be training to become a teacher in food, textiles etc.
What are the chances of her, in a year or two, finding employment in the UAE? What extra expereience and / or qualificxations would she need? I'm fully qualified and have experience to do/find/look for etc the work I'm involved in but what does she need?
cheers!
