Hello all,
I have recieved a job offer in Riyadh and i would ideally like to cover as much as I can in an initial contract. I have a few concerns;
- there is no mention of 'contracted hours' on the contract. In fact no mention of holiday pay, weeks off etc. How may I get this to be stipulated?
- I have been afforded SR33,750 annually for accomodation allowance. Is this reasonable for a 1 bed in Riyadh in a relatively safe neighbourhood?
- there is a "15% of Base Salary for Benefits" what is this exactly?
any help would be appreciated. |

First, you should provide a few more details so people could help you better.
The housing allowance of SR33,750 is good I think. Should be enough to find a decent apartment.
A lot of the other things that seem to be lacking from your contract is quite common. Supposedly most of that is covered by Saudi Labor Laws so certain benefits you should automatically get. For example, after 11 months you'll get the 12 month paid (summer pay). I'm sure there's others on here that can fill you in better.

Don't be timid about asking them to spell out contract hours and holidays. That is something that you absolutely must have in writing before you leave. It is often impossible to change these "contracts" once you get over there, so don't hesitate to be a little aggressive in getting the details down on paper now. |

Many years ago I signed a contract before going to Saudi, and when I arrived I signed a new one. The good thing was nothing had changed in the contract, and I could never figure out why they done that. |

Simple - you sign one contract in your home country for visa application purposes, and another on arrival to be kept in your employee file. |

Yea, more info would be better, but please remember this: If a recruiter tells you something on the phone, most of the time, don't belive it. Ask for the email address of one or two teachers that have been working at the school/university for a while and ask them. A direct hire is the best way to go. Recruiters are about the same as a used car saleman (sorry to all the used car sales people in the world. |

Recruiters and legit employers will not in my experience give you contact details of people working in the job. Ever. Under any circumstances.
If they do that contact is a management stooge paid to give you false information. |
