Yes, I know and respect that.
Most of my problems with KSA had to do with my job. I could have survived there with a decent job.
On the other hand, I did have a very difficult time with the things associated with being a women in the Kingdom. I drove big rigs on the Trans-Alaska pipeline- but I can't drive a car in the Kingdom!?! This alone constricted my life way too much.
I don't mind that women cover in the kingdom- all of my female students wear abayas and head scarves here. I found a lot of other things objectionable, though- like the complete and utter segregation of the sexes and having female students who were locked in a building, with even the fire doors locked.
I don't want to rant on the Kingdom. I think there are sincere efforts being made there and I encourage them. But the cumulative effect of things there, especially the stuff at my job, made my life pretty difficult. I respectfully worked out my contract, and now I am in a happier place. |
