That's an easy one.

Don't tell anyone and no-one will know.

I'm sorry, but for me your question is extremely naive.

If you are just getting some extra cash from privates, I really wouldn't worry about it. Pay for your groceries and bills with this money and don't deposit in your bank just to be on the safe side.

If you want to go down the tax trail then you'd have to set up your own business, paying ZUS of around 300zł/m for the first 2 years and 800zł/m thereafter, all of which is fantastically documented in a sticky thread in this forum.

I have taken on a couple of private students and so, logically I should pay tax on the income (I live in a small backwater of Warsaw and people know and talk to each other, so evading tax might not be a good idea). I have been told that I should may a certain amount of my hard earned (Sorry-tax) to the local bureaucrats here - something like 800 pln a month, but this exceeds what I will be getting (being Poland, this could actually be true!)

Anyone got any advice or bright ideas on this, and what is the procedure.........I already know that the answer will be fraught with pitfalls Very Happy

How is anyone going to know what you are doing about taxes?

I know a lot of people that work under the table because their employers want to avoid paying the taxes and other stupid things that the gov't want to make them pay.

setting up a business is tricky and complicated by the Polish paperwork (I've seen the sticky thread on this topic), and unfortunatley the required long term measure............

on the bright side, I have come across a few schools here that would only give teaching work out to teachers who actually have their own business........and there are other perks. I know someone who legally claims for part of his domestic utilities for business (at home) etc.....

If you really do plan to stay in Poland long term, setting up a business makes sense - even with the hefty ZUS tax you have to pay.

For Americans, starting a business is even more attractive because you can simply invoice clients for work you have done. Most schools in Poland can't employ Americans legally without filing for a work permit, so having your own business would get rid of this obstacle.
