Also, are you on work visas or temporary work visas? I realise you can't get a bank account on a temp work visa but you can get multiple entries. Not sure if I should insist on a full work visa.

Before heading to KSA on a Visitor's Visa or a Business Visa have a look at all the posts here on this related thread

The thing is, they say they are giving me a 'temporary work visa', but this is not an official visa on the embassy websites. I presume it is a business visa?

So now, in addition to 'business' and 'government visit' visas, we have 'temporary work visas'. Can't say I've ever heard of them. ALL visas are temporary, after all. I really do think there is only one type of work visa, and that is applied for in your home country prior to arrival.

Yes you should.

All the regular posters on this site suggest that you should only come on a visa that gives you an Iqama.

Forget all these Visitors' Visa, Temporary Visas, Business Visas and all the others.

Only go for DIRECT HIRE - do not come through a contractor or a recruiter.

MOD edit

I first came to work in KSA in October 1970 and like to think I have considerable experience and knowledge of this country. I am not making postings from some internet cafe in Chiang Mai with 3 months' experience of KSA.

To all of you who intend to come to work for Alfaisal: do not arrive here on temp work visa! Alfaisal just refused to change those into proper work visas for 23 teachers and extend it to a single entry which effectively means that you cannot leave the country at all. In order for them to provide you with the permamnet work visa they would need to send you back to your home country and get the process done properly and this can take some time.
So, if you are OK with being imprisoned here for the duration of your contract, good for you. I wonder how you'll feel when your friends start booking their holidays and talk about it in the staff room.

By the way, I am not of the disgruntled teachers, just staing the facts.

To those who would like to know how things are going at Princess Noura - not so good overall.

I second the last post. I am also not disgruntled. I am tired of being lied to and tricked. I was given clearance to book my tickets for a break in February. After they were already booked and paid for i was told i can not leave the country. I was leaving for MY marriage ceremony.

Read all the posts, and make the right choice.

You do not have to get your work visa in your home country. Thousands of work visa holders get their visas in Bahrain every single year. Talk to all the people working at Aramco if you don't believe me. AND IT'S NOT ILLEGAL TO GET YOUR WORK VISA IN A COUNTRY THAT IS NOT YOUR HOME COUNTRY. My work visa did not come from my home country. BTW, it is MUCH easier to get your work visa in the gulf than in the USA or the UK. I know that for a fact.

Dear Kalima Shahada,

"You do not have to get your work visa in your home country. Thousands of work visa holders get their visas in Bahrain every single year. Your "fact." it seems, may not be everyone's "fact." It's puzzling to me how you can apparently ignore so many of the previous posts from people who came to Saudi on "temporary work visas," "business visas," and so-called "government visas, " and who now find themselves in dire straits, often unable to leave the Kingdom, even to go to Bahrain to get that legitimate work visa (to paraphrase your terms)"much more easily."

Regards,
John

Who exactly is "unable to leave the Kingdom, even to go to Bahrain?" How are they being kept against their will on temporary work visas or business visas? Yes you CAN be held against your will on a proper work visa as I unfortunately found out AFTER I got there. BUT I thought you had the right to leave when you see fit on a business/government visa. IOW, you don't need a different visa to get out if you are on those visas. You just get on a plane or train and get out and you don't need permission.

As for people in dire straights, that's too bad, but I think that has more to do with the 'employers' and their policies. If those same employers suddenly offered proper work visas, do you honesly think their policies would change? I don't! I think they could easily keep people in the country for many months without paying them properly or providing them with health insurance or suitable safe acommodations or transportation. That's what happened to me and a whole lot of other people on work visas.
