I was wondering if anyone could suggest some volunteering opportunities this summer in China. I am not too particular about location; I am however looking to do this during the months of june and july, and probably doing something involving teaching/education. Thanks!

There is no need for volunteers in China because the party looks after everyone. Don't get ripped my friend or not my friend. My school has volunteers and they come and realize the corruption.
If you are serious go to the east of China. But don't be foolish and help greedy people get richer.

Tongue in cheek aside, I think you should reconsidering volunteering... Just too many stories out there of what a teacher thinks is volunteerism is actually amazing level of profit for someone else. But, if you insist, maybe you can find something on one of the job boards at school that are everywhere; I would be very reluctant to trust any "volunteer" organization that charges you more than an visa fee...
I have lost contact with the gentleman, but there was a guy who was fairly well established in the UK before he came to China, and he was constantly finding new ways to involve Rotary Club. Perhaps a local service organization (Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, etc.) has a network you can tap into.

I have to second the sentiments against volunteering in China. I seriously doubt that any organization that you would work for is volunteering its services or working for no profit. If you're looking for a summer diversion and want to be involved with Asian students, look into a PAID summer camp in Korea.

Just remember if you volunteer.. That is one less paid position for someone who is already living and working in China!

Xaingtan University is still taking volunteers. Contact Ms. Lee. Help Chinese recruiters become tycoons. And part of the parcel is to go to Mao's house and worship the great heldsman. The school is dedicated to him, but because of his busy schedule training female gymnast at the time he never made it here. Doesn't matter his statues are everywhere for you to get you picture taken with. But hurry the positions are filling fast.

The solution maybe simple:

If your motives are purely alturistic, take a paid position in a Summer camp, bank all of your earnings and donate to whatever good cause you feel is deserving!

This ensures that your employer is not the beneficiary of your generosity. There are too many unscrupulous people in the ESL market to guarantee that your gesture is worthwhile.
