Hi everybody,

I am in a bit of a pickle. I am somewhat confused when it comes to the correct visa. Don't get me wrong I understand that you should have a Z visa, in order to teach, however the school that is situated in Hainan claims that 'two thirds' of teachers in China are on an L visa.

Help me understand please..............................

FAO: School in Hainan

BOVINE EXCREMENT!

There is no way that two thirds of FT's in China are working on 'L' visas. It seems that you have applied to a school that is not licensed to issue a 'Z' Visa and my recommendation would be to look elsewhere!

Thank you.

I thought so. It sounded funny when I was speaking to them. I have been offered another position already.

1. If you are a full time overseas student in China, you should obtain a different kind of visa (I think it is 'X' Visa).

2. What is 'safe' and 'legal' about calling yourself a volunteer when you are in a paid position (in any country).

3. The cost of applying for an invitation letter and RP are the same for this school as any other. Relatively speaking, it is not expensive and I would not work for any institution that did not pay for making you street legit. You normally have to pay the visa application fee in your own country but every other cost should be borne by the school.

I repeat:-

You have had a stroke of good fortune not accepting employment at this institution. Already, it is clear that they are not the most honest and professional bunch that you could encounter!

The willingness of the school to go to the trouble and expense of getting paperwork for your Z is a good barometer of their seriousness in having you as a teacher.
