Oh! Funny, didn't even think of that. I did the CCF where my mother did Feed the Children. |

Well, I've been told about people 'disguised as teachers' who were primarily abroad to spread 'the word'. |
Happens in China I know. Some contract specifically forbid evanglising |

I've had apps from a number of teachers who, in their objective, mention that they believe Jesus was "the first teacher," that by choosing to teach, they are following him, and by teaching overseas, they can spread the news about him.
I have no objections to their faith, but I'll admit that seeing it in this way on a resume applying for work in a secular organisation does raise questions, questions which, in some countries, I daresay I wouldn't be allowed to ask.
Here, though, I can ask, so I do. What I have to ask is, "Are you willing to respect the secular nature of THIS organisation, and not use the time you are paid to teach English to promote any religion in any way?"
Some say sure.
Some say, "No, I'm a Christian first, and an English teacher second." I respect this a lot; while I can't hire a person who tells me upfront that they will use the classroom to proselytize, but I can recommend a number of faith-based teaching organisations here in town where that attitude is welcome and helpful.
What I have to admit gets on my nerves is the teachers who say they can respect the non-religious nature of the workplace, and then when they've been here for 2 weeks I get complaints from students they are trying to convert. Not cool, and not a key to continuing employment.
Best,
Justin |

Problem in Russia. I've been asked about my religious affiliations in different places. Fortunately for me, I can honestly say I'm an atheist. Although they may be religious - mainly Russian Orthodox - they're pragmatic enough to see that I'm not a problem in this particular area. |

Wow, never would've fathomed any of this. I guess it does just depend on the country. I'm interested in Japan, would my mentioning of the CCF cause a problem or give off the wrong impression?
Anyway, I'm more so a spiritualist who believe in the hippie karma stuff than a Christian, but I always felt I was wrong to try and force religion on anyone since I hated it when it was done on me. So, guess that means I'm more spiritual than religious. |

Your actual beliefs aren't the main point. Employers who worry about evangelism may just screen out anybody who cites activities based around religious activities to stay on the safe side. What is suggested here is that you might keep the facts as 'voluntary work', as long as you think the experience will give you the edge, but omit mention of the religious bits. Obviously, if you want to be religious and proud of it, then that's another matter. I don't know what the Japanese take is. |

Never did say it, but just so you all know, I put up another thread in the Japan section with my redone CV.

Have a look if you'd like and feel free to criticize.

Well, the only reason I included the CCF in the first place, was to show that I really like kids and worry about their welfare, hence why I donated and participated with that particular charity, especially since it's internationally known and I knew my money was going to those in need.

Yeah, but I'm not religious...
Edit: Just noticed a typo in my original post...
