Some aspects of Cultural Imperialism are acceptable. Others are not. I am a great fan of American Music. I think I will give "The Sopranos" a miss and stick to my videocassettes of Laurel and Hardy !

Not an either/or proposition there... don't watch Oprah either. Laughing I did enjoy "6 Feet Under" but didn't last through a half hour of the Sopranos before I clicked it off.

What was the topic of this thread again?

I never assumed or considered you an Oprah fan, VS. I am just rambling lately. The original topic...some PC nonsense from a mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnell's porch to the effect that Mrs I Love the Whole World does not wish to destroy the environment by quadbiking on sand dunes or whatever the ****.

"Or indeed recommend any other Halal pastimes? ( nothing greasy/pervy or that will require large consumption of pork products please)."

Yes, puh-lease! Let's please make sure we don't engage in activities that aren't HALAL!! That obsequious topic deserves to be hijacked.

Ever seen "Dead Like Me," VS? A Showtime production. Love that girl!

Does anyone know of any professional basketball leagues?

I used to play in high school and in different collegiate leagues here in the states. I want to try and see if I can find a good place to get some good run in.

Let me know.

Thanks a bunch!

Dear Sheikh Abdullah,

Professional? Well, there's this:

http://www.asia-basket.com/Saudi-Arabia/basketball.asp

but I don't think they'd let you play.

Now, if you were a lady in Jeddah:

Saudi Arabia's Underground Women's Basketball Scene

The Jeddah United women's basketball team trickled onto the court, each player wrapped in a black abaya and head scarf. Within minutes, the women had shed their cloaks and were in uniform white pants and jerseys with their names in red practicing layups, passes, and foul shots.

The team, made up mostly of Saudi students and housewives, is preparing for a local tournament this month. But what the women would really love to do, many said, is compete internationally and represent their country abroad, something Saudi Arabia does not permit.

Regards,
John

Ha ha, come on. I think the other Sheikh was pulling our legs, spoofing the meandering character of this admittedly hijacked thread.

...well, unless the Sheikh knows you well, Johnslat, and knows you will come up with an answer no matter where he posts...
