Hi all,

I know similar questions get posted all the time, but my circumstances are slightly different.

I am an Australian moving to Hong Kong around March or April and will be looking for part time work (I have 1-2 days a week of online work with my current job in Australia).

I have an engineering degree along with 2 years experience teaching engineering subjects at the University of Technology, Sydney (one was a communication subject to predominately students with a non-English speaking background).

I loved (for the most part) this teaching work and am looking at pursing this further by teaching ESL in Hong Kong as I think I would love it.

So I guess my question is: with my experience, am I likely to find a job with decent pay and conditions? I have heard that in HK, the reputable schools only hire people with a lot of experience teaching English (fare enough, same goes for any industry). But with my experience, am I only likely to find a job that pays peanuts in a private college type place that has a lot of unpaid after hours preparation and marking.

With my lack of experience I dont expect the best and highest paid job, but what kind of pay and conditions/school type etc. should I be able to find with my experience?

Cheers,
Tom

P.S I do not have a TEFL or any other certificate, buy am currently looking at doing my TEFL Certificate Basic or Educator.
