A liquor license is about 40 OMR, payable by credit card only (Visa or Mastercard only accepted.) It last for two years.

Currently in Salalah, the monthly limit is 50 OMR,regardless of salary, that is a lot of booze! especially if you like Gin or Vodka (UK bottled) at about 2.5 OMR per litre.

I have never, ever, been able to use up my permit, even when "helping" other folks who cannot or will not apply for one, there are many who do this. Mayhaps me and other folks should withdraw this "service".

Hold on there, my permit ran out in December, I am no longer employed by MoHE - wonder who will help me out with the odd bottle (AKA - this is where you find out who your "real" friends are!!!)

I would say that discretion is necessary when deciding whom to "help out". Certainly new people who are still getting their working papers, etc., and the odd person who has a bottle of wine a couple of times a year when they entertain their boss. But beware the person who doesn't think they need (want to be bothered with) to get a license, and has you supply them regularly and who goes to parties emptied handed and leaves loaded to the gills.

That would be the same person who can't be fussed with getting a ______(car, printer, internet connection, groceries, ad nauseum), but always needs use of the above.

Their are people working abroad who think they should be able to save 90% of their income, while enjoying a western lifestyle.

Fortunately, they are few here, but they make themselves known pretty quickly.

Glad to help. But, as I just got my working papers myself, I have yet to get a license. I still have to depend on the kindness of strangers.
