I don't understand why I'm not seeing any visa questions. From what I'm reading a person (US citizen) has buy a plane ticket before they can apply for a visa (probably round trip) Then they need to interview for a visa in person. If you don't have enough money to support yourself you wont get it. If you tell them you plan on teaching English there under the table they wont give you a visa. So, 4 plane tickets latter (1 set to Argentina and the other to the embassy) and you have no visa and are out time and money.

Is this really how the system works. How do people do this? I can't believe it.

According to their website, IH in Buenos Aires simply doesn't hire Americans, only Brits, because of the visa process.

Anybody have any info on what it takes for an American to get working papers in Argentina?

Hi;

The truth is that you won't get working visa papers in Argentina through teaching ESL, language schools here do not sponsor for work visas.

ESl teachers work under the table.. If you want to travel here you can with a passport, tell them you are vacationing, come with a return plane ticket, and you stay here on a tourist visa (that would be the stamp on your passport). DONT tell them you are coning here to work illegally - of course they will give you the boot..

If you any more help or advise send me a pm and the link to the Arg tefl blog, that can shed some light..

Cheers, Sabine
