Hi there just wanted to get any feedback postive/negative on teaching in Brunei I may be pursuing a position through CFBT and so far have only had good feedback from teachers there but any other feedback would be appreciated.

My main concern is that I'm single and looking to meet a partner-so far the feedback I've had is from people with families who have raved about it but I haven't spoken to anyone single. I don't drink and not into clubbing but still wanting to be able to meet other singles and have some social life.

Cheers Julie Smile

Brunei is not a destination I would choose if I was looking for a partner.

I haven't lived in Brunei but all the research I did to see if I should apply to CfBT said very clearly that it wouldn't suit singles. Or to be more precise, singles are unlikely to meet a partner there, and most likely to leave after their first contract.

I had a friend who worked there. She arrived single and left the same way with no action in between.

If you can wait to hook up with someone, it might be an interesting couple of years...but they will likely remain single. Guess it depends on your priorities...

Hiyas.

Been here 18 months now, working as a teacher (not CfBT) for the past 6 months. Single, and absolutely, yes, it is difficult -

If you are Muslim, Chinese, or a very physically/socially active person, it might be do-able. I you are living in KB/Seria, it might be better also. And of course girls, like in most parts of the world, do still have an edge over single guys.

I guess it does mean somewhat what you mean by partner - depending on your interp of that word/relationship, you will also find Brunei culture/custom (and some laws!!!!) take harsher views on unmarried couples - generally, we seem to be sort of ignored/excluded in that sense, but it is always there in the background.

I'll refrain from inserting my vital stats/personal ad cut&paste here. Smile

All that being said, it IS a nice place to live & work, and you wil certainly have enough free time & money to date/seek a partner as you please. Just seemingly a small pool to be a single fishie in.

Glen
