This year I have total control over the Summer Camp, the last 2 years have been lame asss affairs to say the least. I was going to go on holidays for 3 months but my boss pleaded with me to stay and do the camp. So, I said I will do it, only if I have absolute power.
This may sound draconian to some people but I am sick of seeing inexperienced teachers thrown into the deep end with no direction or idea of what is expected of them.
I am putting together the curriculum for the summer camp and would invite others who will be doing summer camps to exchange ideas.
We will also be needing teachers for the summer camp.
Cheers Carol

Hey Carol,

Care to share more details?

What level/age group are the students?

At what type of venue will it be held?

How long do you have with the students?

What is the student/teacher ratio?

I just finished a meeting with one of my bosses and we are getting into more detail about the camp. He proposes that the teachers have one day off in 20 days. I proposed that the teacher have 1 and a half days off each week, Saturday afternoon and Sunday. He said the parents don't like the children to be at home with nothing to do but play computer games. I said that we want to attract good teachers and look after them and don't burn them out. Things like, provide them with a good hearty western breakfast. Let them have few evenings off. I find these discussions very useful because my bosses let me know what's going on from their side and hopefully we will meet in the middle somewhere.
Now I would like some feedback from you. What sort of conditions are acceptable and what is not.
Cheers carol

Hearty Artery Clogging....yumm....
No split shifts...
Non-shared accommodations.
Decent salary
Domestic Transportation Allowance
Professionally Arranged Tour of area without students. (Last camp "tour" I went on was two teachers with 80 students It was more like "Adventures in Babysitting"
Access to photocopiers. (I had an issue with that one last year)
Access to A/V equipment.
Free weekends / evenings (not-mandatory but nice)
