Dear MrScaramanga,
How? Oh, they'll probably ground him for a week (and no TV.)
Regards,

Well... I know exactly how they would "handle" it if he were a she... her body would be found in the desert or a quiet burial would be arranged. Males are given a lot more rope. We'll never know one way or the other... but... it was quite a step that they even had a public trial for a son of Sheikh Zayed.

All for the show, isn't it?
A real shame really...
Maybe he could be forbidden from travelling to other countries?

That would be a great idea... pull his passport. But it is just likely that they would prefer to have him leave.

By bringing together the twin threads of nepotism and the abuse of human rights, the Issa case raises central concerns about what goes on beneath the UAE's oil-rich veneer.
There are signs that the UAE's familial system of government is beginning to creak- at home and abroad. In the aftermath of the Issa case, Jim McGovern, a US congressman, has called for a freeze on US government aid to the UAE. And the controversy has delayed recertification of a US-UAE nuclear power cooperation agreement. The UAE may have saved one of its favourite sons - but at a political price.
Adam Smith once said" Commerce and manufactures can seldom flourish long in any state which does not enjoy a regular administration of justice".
The UAE may turn out to be a case study of his hypothesis.
If Smith was right - and capitalism does rely on justice- then the acquittal of Sheikh Issa exposes a faultline in the Gulf that cannot hold indefinitely. |

Years ago someone else high up the social ladder opened fire on the control tower at AD airport (if I recall the details correctly). He was sent on a long va-cay in Pakistan by the family. That's the sort of handling that I think VS is referring to. |

Justice? It's all about who you are connected with - didn't murdering scum / defenders of freedom from Blackwater get off with the murder of 17 people in Iraq?
So, yes why shouldn't a wastad up sheikh get off in a secet 'trial.' Knowing the UAE he and Mr Judge are probably cousins anyway. So, less froth please. |

And the assumption is that we cannot be angered by both? This is the UAE forum. It's a thread about a topic relevant to those living in the UAE. |

We are not comparing the evil Americans with a solitary sheikh. It's irrelevant. I suppose over on a Chinese thread about Tibet you would equate that with the American colonization of the Philippines? (Not the Belgians, British, French or any other imperialist adventures, I suppose) |
