I worked as a teacher at an ISIS Education and Travel centre (Royal Holloway) this past summer and except for some very minor issues, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The company is for the most part well run; the management staff at my centre was hard working, dedicated and caring, as were the teachers. Accommodating hundreds of students during a given week, as you can well imagine, is difficult and tiring and yet to my understanding the management team was most successful at this.

I am seeking feedback from other teachers about their experiences at other centres, as I wish to return next summer but would rather join the staff at a centre other than Royal Holloway. Again, I loved my experience, but since Ive done that, seen that, would like to move on.

Thanks, Very Happy

I worked at the ISIS Homestay school in Greenwich in '05 and '06 and it was great. The DOS was called Tim and was one of the most 'unflappable' guys I have ever met but I have a feeling he has left now. They get quite a few teachers coming back every year for the summer school so they must be doing something right. I would definitely recommend the centre.

Thank you Katyagooner. I appreciate your opinion and have been considering the Greenwich Centre, exactly because of the high return rate of the teachers. Just a quick question for you. I am also thinking about other summer schools and locations (different cities in the UK and even different countries). Do you have any further other recommendations and insights. You indicated that you worked at Greenwich in 2005 and 2006 so I'm wondering if since 2006 you worked at other summer camps. Your response was greatly appreciated and I hope you'll continue providing me with your comments.

I can also be reached at [email protected]

Thanks again,

Hi, I didn't go back after 2006 because I got an interesting opportunity to teach in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in summer 2007 so I did that instead. In summer 2008, I taught at Bloomsbury International in Holborn. I would definitely recommend it there as well. It's not a summer camp, it's a year-round school but they take on extra teachers in the summer because it's their peak season obviously. There does seem to be quite a high staff turnover so I think there may be problems lurking beneath the surface but I didn't have any trouble while I was there. The students are mostly young adults and older (no stroppy teenagers!) and all quite high levels but to be honest, I enjoyed ISIS best out of all the summer work I've done. I'll probably be applying to ISIS for next summer (if they'll have me!)

KatyaGooner, Uzbekistan, too cool! And possibly ISIS this summer! Consider Royal Holloway: great location, great staff, and great management team! There was a wonderful chemistry with the staff, which led to many staff functions. Teachers were supportive of each other and management worked hard; they were dedicated, supportive, understanding and flexible. We were paid on time and lesson plans were prepared. And the plans were actually quite good!

Hey, drop me a line at [email protected]

I hope that we might have the opportunity to work together. Ciao for now.

I worked for them once as a DOS. It was about 5 years ago. DO NOT GO NEAR THEM. Basically they sacked me for no reason. The owners are really nasty scumbags.
And they wouldn't give me a reference so I haven't been able to work in EFL since and have to work for the RSPB and those are the only jobs in my part of Kent.

I'm so sorry to hear about your bad experience, but as for not going near ISIS, that would be too late for me, as I worked for the company for 6 weeks last summer and plan to return this summer. My experience was quite positive.

Thanks for your comment.
