I know that to teach in a big city like Shanghai or Beijing, I would most likely find myself trying to work for companies that will require a college degree, experience and maybe a certificate as well. I'm wondering if I went to a rural area away from the big cities, would I be able to find a job teaching/tutoring English without needing all these requirements? |

I know several people who work in Jilin province who not only do not have a degree, but are not even native speakers. They work for a company (don't know the name) that sends them to different schools in different cities. Most of them seem to like their company well enough, but some of them do have to work very heavy hours, including commuting to work on weekends, and one girl got moved to a different city with only two months left on her contract (she said f-you and promptly had her visa cancelled). I think they get paid okay and as far as I know they all have residence permits and work visas, but obviously their working conditions are not great. Anyway I've heard from other people that Jilin province is rather corrupt and that they don't really follow the laws regarding foreign teachers particularly closely. A lot of people are probably going to advise you not to get into a situation like this, and I'd probably agree. |

ING International English in Shenzhen hires just about anyone--from non-native speakers to Africans who wouldn't otherwise be able to find a job in China. Here is their website (in Chinese only I'm afraid):
http://www.ing-china.cn
Just be careful dealing with these folks...their opinion around Shenzhen is quite terrible, but for someone who has no experience and no degree a place like this is a good start. They pay around 11,000 RMB per month, before taxes and NO accommodation or bonuses included. If you want a direct email address to the recruiting department, send me a PM. |
