Hi, my name is Roman Schachter and I am going to be graduating in June, after that I want to go overseas and teach for a year. I will have a BA in English, and I have been working as a tutor for my University where I am frequently teaching and helping ESL students. I have been looking over various cert programs and I am leaning towards one, Bridge TEFL. It's a 140 hour certificate with 20 hour weekend in person training, 120 hour online course, free job placement in Korea or or China, "The complete TEFL package. A 140 hour certificate plus a teaching job abroad!" It appears to be legit, however I know how legit scams initially appear. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with this program, or any feedback whatsoever? Also, with my BA, ESL teaching/tutoring experience, and cert will I be able to land a fairly well paying job in China or Korea which will allow me to save up money? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
-Roman Schachter
PS. Here is the link to the BridgeTEFL if anybody is interested http://www.bridgetefl.com/weekend-tefl.php |

Do you want to work in either of those two countries? If so, you don't even need a TEFL certificate. If you do want to work in China and get a cert., doing a TEFL (CELTA may be better if you want to work in other countries later) in China would probably make it a bit easier to get adjusted and get a feel for the schools and what you should be looking for.
Not applicable for Korea where it's 1), not needed, 2), could cause issues for a visa (probably would have to leave, possibly return home, then come back). Though it may earn you about 90 USD more a month than another new person in the public schools, hit or miss in private.
The 20 hour in person training sounds good if you're getting teaching practice, as that's basically the standard for TEFL certs. |

Yes I want to work for one of those countries. And even though it is not required, will a cert help me get a job that will pay more money? And I am going to take the cert course in the US not in China. Taking into account my qualifications and my order of priorities being 1) Money 2) Tourist delight and 3) Safety, in your own opinion, which do you recommend China or Korea? Thank you very much for your response! |

Again, hit or miss on the cert. for Korea. In public schools it may get you ~90 bucks a month more than a newbie. In private schools it will depend on whether or not they care. You'd probably get paid just as much or more if you were a blond-haired girl from North America in the private schools.
Hmm. Korea for one and three. Two for China, though don't know much about 'safety'.
If that's really your order of necessity, Korea would probably take it. |

Honestly, there are heaps and heaps of job offers in Korea or China. YOu won't need placement. Just look at the job boards. |
