Dear Menace Sir, Greetings!
I wish to inform you of a most gracious windfall that has recently befallen me from a distant kin in U. S. America, a sum amounting to no less than several milliards of dollars, a bountiful sum you will most surely agree. Given the inheritance intact, so be it I should most undoubtedly invest the construction of a school for English and advancement to enable the empowerment of the orphans of our fair land Nigeria.
In order to ascertain the certain release of the aforementioned bounty, our national government informs me that I must make a correct and timely down-payment of minimum two hundred thousand dollars to accomplish this necessary action. Accordingly, I should like to request your kind cooperation in expediting this matter to its fullest, by instrumenting our foundation in its regular fiscal responsibilities to the Ministry of Taxing Windfall.
Solidarity!
Kindly, according to your munificent wonder, forward at your behest this good amount to the following address below:
Dr. El Khmer Heet,
Acct no 98587394-M
Universal School of ESLing and Orphanage
3819 South Sese Seko Drive,
c/o New York Bank Office
Lagos 34087

Like the Cambodian ambassador in the previous post, I too get lots of offers of opportunities from Nigeria by email!
Seriously though, I had always imagined that the standard of English in Nigeria was generally pretty good so I am surprised there are many ESL opportunities there. |

| Further to my previous post - this school is almost certainly a scam. The same outfit is advertising in Germany for German speakers at surprisingly inflated salaries. If they ask for money up front for visa processing or other admin costs, just walk away. |

A variant on the Law 642 scam, probably - as told by khmerhit and gugelhopf.
Nigeria does NOT need TEFLers, and won't ever hire any. If you believe otherwise, you are going to pay a hefty price! |

I suspect a scam because the school appears to be in the middle of nowhere, yet is offering a reasonable salary for Africa. More suspiciously it has no web site and only a Yahoo address.
It is not asking for TEFLers incidentally. it is asking for teachers of Modern Languages.
I tend to suspect that you are dealing with a wannabe recruiter rather than an outright scam, but you should be able to get more details. |

| I actually work with someone who was an EFL teacher in Nigeria for about 15 years. She made loads of money. However she does have alot of horror stories aswell. |

| I want to thank all of you for your feedback. I indeed had my suspicions to begin with so I thought I should see what others had to say. Of course I had no plans to give any money to this person. I am wiser than that. I have sent this individual an email asking for more specific info (contacts of current and past teachers, sample contract, website address, etc, etc). We will see what he or she has to say as a reply. In case any of you are curious, this individual posted this position on the "Australia Academic Circle" website. I would have thought that such websites would check to make sure all job posters are legit. I guess not. Thanks again everyone. |

| If, by some miracle, this opportunity is genuine and there is the potential for a well paid job in Nigeria please post this on the forum. It would be nice to see some good news about Nigeria. |

Menace,
how come you are looking to move on from the UAE? Can't you extend there? You got there in Sept right? How's it been?
I would have thought a job there would blow the pants off anything in Nigeria. |

| I am only looking. I would not have neccesarily flew to Nigeria even if the job was legit. I am just attempting to accumulate options. I would like to stay in the Middle East since the pay is satisfactory, but I must leave my present employment in the UAE. The job is more of a babysitting position. I am capable of much more. However I am not regretful as my current position did get my "foot in the door" as far as working in the Middle East is concerned. Like I said, I am just trying to accumulate options. I have always said employers are always flooded with candidates to choose from. Shouldn't we as employees have the same thing (choices). And just to let everyone know, I emailed the Nigeria "employer" over 24 hours ago and have yet to receive a reply regarding my requests for more info. |

Dear M2S,
from my (limited) experience in the ME all teaching jobs are really babysitting jobs. That's why we get paid more. Shhh. Keep it a secret. |
