It is more of a fact in our department than a stereotype . It is just the way it is. There are no western women married to Omanis, or other Asians (we have one colleague married to an Egyptian man).
I mention this because the OP suggested that all of the romantic possibilities here are for the western women, and that the Omani men seem to be seeking out us Western women. Evidence would suggest otherwise.
And these particular straight men look anything but sad and lonely. And some met their wives right here in Oman.
I imagine that you, Baz, are not suffering from dejection and loneliness, as it seems the OP is. |

A single Western woman, on the other hand, never seems to complain about living in the Sultanate while making even a small salary. Why? Well, because they have a great lifestyle -these are often worshipped by the Omanis, the Indians and other Western men as a prized commodity even if past 60. Many start living private lives that could be the envy of Elizabeth Taylor herself. |
On one point I would agree. I am a single woman here and I am over 60. I am quite happily single, and haven't been married 8-10 times, like Ms.
Elizabeth Taylor. I suspect she might envy my contentment at being single- a condition she could never achieve.
And, by using Ms. Taylor as your example, you reveal that your are probably no young pup yourself. |

Why pay for a cougar cruise, when you've got Oman?
When the singles group tried to book another cougar cruise, Carnival rejected them like a pool boy who has decided its time to stop banging moms hot friend, despite her comely, silicone-enhanced *beep* and the animal-print lingerie that conceals them. The cruise company has said its decided to stop theme bookings, leaving the cougars stranded on the open seas. Worry not though, the cougars will sail on. There are no less than two cougar-themed cruises scheduled on other cruise lines in 2010. In May, Royal Caribbeans Mariner of the Seas will ferry cougars round the Mexican Riviera for seven-nights, while in December, Norwegian Cruises Norwegian Sky will take the ladies to the Bahamas for three nights. Sail away, sail away.

This is ridiculous. I am an older lady here in Oman and the local men or women don't pay over much attention to me, no more than anyone else. That's what I like around here. Live and let live. It's the Indian guys who stare endlessly. It's a starefest.
I know of only one oldish lady on staff who 'entertains' local gentlemen and I for one am grateful as when she isn't thusly engaged she is in a foul temper.
Our younger western men have a nice group of youngish friends (co-ed) who 'hang out' in a friendly group from all 3 of the Nizwa colleges. The dear young things seem to enjoy each other's company in all manner of expected ways. They even mix with us older staff from time to time and it is very nice.
I reckon our poster is in a bit of a downward rejection spiral and that's a shame but perhaps a comparison, reality check in Saudi will soften his views on Oman. |

I am a more than a bit suprised to the responses to the orignal post.
He is extremely accurate.
I would guess the OP and I are not in the same college, or even the same town, but what he has described is a very good description of what is happening throughout Oman. |
