8 years back I was cited (not arrested, not convicted, all charges dropped) for misdemeanor battery. The whole thing was really a misunderstanding, never even made it to court. But the citation shows up on my background check!! I have a master's in education 15 years of teaching experience. Can I be accepted by a Vietnamese employer?? Any insight on this would be appreciated--I know you may not have a full and precise answer. Thanks to all who reply.

I don't know but you certainly don't "deserve" to have your chances affected. Eight years is a very long time, and charges were dropped.
Have you actually done the background check yet??
In the UK, the "basic disclosure form" we need to get doesn't show that sort of thing, ever. And I'm pretty sure even quite serious things get "wiped" after five years.
So yeah, I'd be angry if I found there were people getting knocked back for such things.
best of luck with it xx |

I got my visa for China, had no check done. Some countries won't care - South America, Mexico might not. |

Dude. Get a job here. No one will ask about your criminal background check until the time comes, when push comes to shove, for you to get a work permit. By that time, if you're still in Saigon, you won't pass your health check. Not a healthy place to live. If you can get a job, and stay here for a year or so, you can get a "local" police clearance and be legit in the eyes of the police here in VN. Assuming you're not a habitual axe murderer of course. There a whole slew of "undesirable" elements currently living and teaching here....Hanoi is addressing this problem at the moment. That's what this whole visa/work permit is all about. Good luck. |
