What can anyone tell me about job opportunities in Xalapa ? I have never been there, but the city and nearby countryside sound really great. I currently teach part-time for Berlitz here in the U.S. Unfortunately, Berlitz doesn't have a school in Xalapa. I know Harmon Hall is there, but I'm not hearing a lot of good about Harmon Hall in general. I don't know anything about that particular location.
Thanks,
Scott |

Xalapa is a beautiful small city. It is cold in the winter, however. Harmon Hall is there, yes, and I don't recommend it particularly. Check to see if there is something for you at the University of Veracruz. |

I've never been to Xalapa but I know one of the Directors of the Harmon Hall school...a very nice person. Each institute is different. Check them out and ask about everything.
Good luck! |

A couple of years ago I purschased a book (it was really a binder) on finding work in Mexico teaching English. They listed Xalapa as a quaint colonial town and the perfect place to live and work. Based on this information, I had always wanted to visit. This past December, while visiting my girlfriend in Oaxaca we took the 8 hour bus ride to Xalapa. Although I haven't seen a lot of Mexico (Cancun, Oaxaca, DF, and Guanajuato) I have to say that we were bored out of our minds in Xalapa. It seemed like a pretty "average" place at best.
One thing you have to consider, however is that the University was out of session and I've read that the town is dominated by University students. I personally feel like Xalapa would rank somewhere in the middle as far as desirable locations go. |
