2000 ytl/month and says housing is only 300 ytl in Bursa, and that I must pay it as well as airfare. He has also just emailed me that there is a teachers workshop thing happening in the last week in January and could I attend, that its free and there's free housing during the 1-week thing.

What is this? Does it sound strange?

I think 300 is a bit low. Does he already have a place rented? If so, ask to see photos first, it might be a dump. 350 or 400 might be a bit more reasonable. He should arrange a place for you to stay whether or not you pay the rent. It's hard to find an apartment in Turkey.

I disagree, its easy to find an apartment it IS a pain in the ass to rent it and get everything hooked up. I waited 24 days for hot water and gas... The amount of paper work needed to put the electricity in your name is a bit much. Make sure you have 6 copies of every document you have on you... From the day of signing my lease (September 5th) to having everything finally in my name, turned on and otherwise working was 6 weeks (October 15th)

Considering that you have to pay rent yourself, it's pretty ordinary contract.
If you are going to pay your airfare, then at least make sure there is a bonus at the end of your contract.

English Time is a crap school but at least they give you around $1 600.00 dollars bonus at the end (this is travel costs and bonus combined - every year that you finish).

I know people who have had bad experience with them. They have contracts with religious schools across Turkesy and get about half of your salary. I knew a group that was working for them and eventually they all left. In Bursa you might try Wall Street and there are some other places. The people I knew working for Leeds were basically working a full time teaching job and 1600 is too low for that, especially if they don't provide a place to live.

This guy says Leeds holds a teachers' workshop every 4 months lasting a week, and then he places you in a job for 2000 in Bursa.
