Although it's strictly verboten in many countries, how many out there have some sort of non-teaching sideline to bring in a little extra disposable income?
I did radio jingles in Japan. From what I understand, they're still being used.

That's pretty cool. Did you sing the jingles?
In Korea I wrote a kid's book, edited some manuals and my wife recorded lots of TOEIC books. |

Recorded lessons for the whole of Hubei Province-against my contract, yet sanctioned by the school. The good ol' Chinese 'Turn a Blind Eye' manoeuvre. Apparently, I have a "beautiful voice" Yeah. I was also introduced to a private student by a Chinese colleague; good money plus amazing meal included (I love the Chinese obsession with food. Teachers never go hungry!). I'm now trying to think of alternative ways of making more lucre |

Luckily, no. I shudder at the thought of warbling some J-pop styled ditty.
I did intros to shows and the general schtick. Eg. "Bringing you the hottest music!" etc.
I didn't escape having to sing for the wee ones in my kids classes, though.

I intend to sell my 6'2" blue eyed frame to anyone who asks nicely enough
Failing that I'll use my huge stature being the biggest doorman in China, they'll be no fighting in my bars!!
Or maybe i'll just be lazy, stay in bed and get people in England to send me money periodically |

I currently do scientific proofreading for supplemental income. That involves editing manuscripts and helping scientists with making slide presentations. |

I am currently juggling two jobs: a university teaching position on two campuses, with a lot of commuting in between.
Since my contract does not ban side jobs, I have accepted a second stint at a middle school, teaching ten classes in 4 afternoons. Their English is amazing, it's clearlyabove the English of my university students even though they are sixty to a classroom!
The downside is that the schools are far apart; on 3 days, Ihave to take my lunch in a car as it travels from one campus to the other. I usually arrive ten to 20 minutes before class begins.
And, most if not all of my western colleagues here on campus have a second job. |

Uh oh, now we are revealing our age
The official Chinese contract says something to the effect of "no outside work without the permission of the school" So I just tell my school. It is pretty hard for them to say no with a staight face, seeing how they are the ones that often try to get me to work extra classes.
Like my arch enemy Roger I am juggling two jobs. My first choice couldn't hire me legally, so i work there most every weekend, 8 hours Sat, 4 on Sunday. Good money. 8-16 middle school/high school students in each class, a 16 week class with the same students every week. All the students in a given class are of the same ability. Almost all of these students have better english then my college students
During the week, my "true job", 12 hours teaching oral english at the lowest level college possible in China |

LOL. Back in the days when Bruce had hair. I did too, at that point. Now, it's down to the wood every second day.

I stand in front of Lawson and wear a shoddily made cardboard sign around my neck that says "Will drop pants for food". No takers yet.
In Japan, particularily in a smaller town, I don't think there's all that much in terms of "extra employment" outside the English field. I suppose you could bartend. I've never seen a bouncer in Japan, so that's out. Proofreading maybe? Personally, I'm too wiped after a day of working to even remotely consider moonlighting. |

I had to moonlight in Riyadh, as my employers (a government ministry) were (litotes) a bit slow in processing my salary. I just upped my hours in the evening classes (well, there is b2gger else to do there) and the back-payments came through only six months late. |

I was hoping to find a good kickboxer that wants to learn English. That way he (or she?) could train me while we conjugate verbs and I could turn up for work looking like Edward Norton in Fight Club. I like the idea of barter. It's so anti-consumerist |

Many moons ago I ''acted" in videos which were supposedly designed to teach English in various situations. I cringe now thinking of them. One day when I'm rich and famous I'll be dreading them coming out into the open. It would be the end of a career.(not an acting career. And NO they weren't those type of videos) |
