But what's the deal with private academies in China, how are they?

never worked in any chinese language mills myself. i know people who work in them and they're just too rigid in how they do things for my liking. they do pay more money, but more hours as well. anyone with a bit of initiative can work at a more relaxed university job in china and do enough part time work on the side to increase their income. may take some time to make the connections, but its not hard to do.

you can easily wire money to a bank account outside of china. i do it once a year.

1. go to bank with a chinese friend.
2. have them exchange the currency from RMB to $.
3. go to another window and have your friend help you transfer the $$$ from that bank to your account back home. pay a small fee (1-2%?).
4. wait 2-3-4 days, then the money is there.

in the past i think only the Bank of China did this, but other banks may do it now.

I am worried about finding a friend that can be trusted. If I come to China I will try to get 100 percent of my salary to be allowed to be transferred. I hope to save 6000RMB a month.

you're worrying for nothing. it's a rare FT that doesn't quickly make at least one friend you can trust to help out with these activities.

you'll be with them at the time of the transaction so i don't think they're going to flee the country with your cash.

Do you think that earning 6000 on the side is doable? I currently teach about 30 hours a week in Taipei.

How hard will it be to find 10 hours a week in Guangzhou or Hangzhou or another large city?
