Hey guys. Would anyone happen to know some good source of information for the word list that students would need to study for the Eiken test? I have heard reference to the "Monbu-kagaku-sho" which is supposedly 900 words and 1800 words respectively for different age groups. However I have yet to find any actual lists with those words. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What level are they studying for? Level 3 is still pretty basic vocab the words are stuff that any 3rd year JH student should by about mid year. But I recently started doing the level 2 past tests with some students who will have an interview test in English for their high school of choice and there is a big difference.

Level 3 is still cherry blossoms, mountains, dogs, baseball and students, with questions like "what are you going to next vacation?".

Level 2 is all stuff like navigation systems, efficient, factors, personality and rehabilitation. And the question that most stuck in my mind from yesterday was "do you think that men and women are equal in the work place?"

You can get sample tests here.

Monbu-kagaku-sho (sometimes abbreviated MEXT) is the name of a government group in charge of education in Japan (among other things). It is not a list of vocabulary words.

Hey guys thank you for the replies.

@ seklarwia: I am not focusing on one level in particular, but trying to obtain a comprehensive list of recommended vocabulary for each giving level. I currently work in an Eikawa and we put a lot of focus on the Eiken aspect of English learning, so I want to develop some curriculum for the students to help build and maintain their vocabulary at all levels.

@ Glenski: thank you for the links. I have viewed the main Eiken site, as well as the chickenbones one. It is from the chickenbones site that I noticed the author mentions the Monbukagakusho, but he/she references it as a word list consisting of 900 and 1800 words respectively. Later I did some research and found out as you had mentioned that the word Monbukagakusho refers to the Ministry of Education.

I would still like to find this list of words that supposedly the Ministry of Education developed for the students as recommended learning. From other reading I noticed that it might have been developed from the Ministry of Education around 2001. So maybe it is outdated, or no longer circulated.

Another source of Eiken vocab lists with Japanese translations, maybe good for students in Japan, is
