As TPR is a language school, they live and die by weekend classes. So, no weekend jaunts to Macau/HK.
If really want the scoop on TPR, PM Orrin.

hey, I have been offered a job with TPR Zhuhai aswell and I wanted to see if anyone could help me out a little..
First off, the ad on the job board said they pay 5,500 but the contract says that 12 hour of teaching are included in the guaranteed monthly salary of 5000, and on top of that you get paid for every hour of teaching over 12 hours. But what you get paid per extra hour depends on the type of class and sounds very low to me: 12 yuan for kindergarten or 25 for business class.. Overtime is considered as hours over 21 teaching hours and is paid 120 per hour.
confused? I am too. Who would want to work an extra hour for 12 yuan, thats not even 2 euros or 2 US dollars..
Also someone said they try to 'nickle and dime you' but what could they ask you for? If you just do your teaching hours what can they ask you for?
One more thing. They said that I should enter china on a tourist visa, and then do my paperwork there and get the visa from Macau.. Is that fishy at all? |

Yes.
They advertise on Daves frequently. Problems finding/keeping teachers/suckers? |

Looking at this thread and the post above it seems like there are many suckers willing to sign their name on the dotted line with American TPR...good on 'em...remember: one is born every minute. |

The offer of 5000rmb for 12 hours of teaching is not bad.
However, the extra hours for peanuts is not acceptable. You don't have
to offend them, just say you have other things to do. I hope the extra
hours are just optional for you to accept or not. Find out what other
strings are attached as well-free apartment, free medical insurance,
bonus at end of contract, free language lessons, etc.
Remember no one can force you to accept an offer. Please always keep in mind that they need you more than you need them- if they have no
teacher, they can't enrol students. And their trip to the bank disappears!
So they have to treat their FT's fairly. And you can deduce how fairly they treat their FT's if they have to advertise on Dave's so often. Ads on Dave's are not free either.
The market works on supply and demand, the sooner these schools learn
that lesson the better. |

This is a good point. And also, be leery of those ads in which 75% of the content is telling you how great China is, as if the school invented the country, or tells you how your life is miserable and "great adventure, history, culture and small classes of cute kids who worship you are right here on the dotted line". |

| I can tell you that, after over 4 years experience with them, it is DEFINITELY, a revolving door at TPR. Also, they don't give a flip about the quality of the product they deliver to their customers. They only care about trying to sustain their failing "franchise" business. |

Ft's, these "businessmen" are no different than our ancesters in NA and other places where they had chances to pay peanuts for the labours of people from Asia and Africa.
Greed has no boundaries and no one segment of human kind has a monopoly on that unpopular characteristic. |

The migrant workers of ages past were economic refugees escaping a life of starvation a deprivation - I've yet to see an EF or other mill advert going along the lines - come teach in China guaranteed 3 meals a day
But still no need to support evil greed by working for the over exploitative employer - unless you're at the door of destitution and are desperate to earn that daily crust!!!!!! |

Do some people feel FT's should not be exploited but others are fair game?
I hope not! |

I just feel Ft's have the choice to take a job from TPR or not. Instead, they bitch about it after the fact. It doesn't make good sense to me.
I would use that energy to search for better pastures and take TPR for
what it is- a learning experience or lesson in life!
Take whatever is positive and move on. |

Bad or good is a personal interpretation-you know, one person's trash is
another person's treasure.....
But making it a learning experience and not allowing it color the whole
life picture. Use it as a spring board to something better, but that something better may not the ideal job either. Life is a journey and
it is just part of it, not the whole journey.
Mr. Kiv, China may not be the ideal place to be, but the very fact you are
there and you freely chose to be there is something to be said about what
you think of other places in the world, at this time. Right? |
