Yes A Great place to teach in Muscat. They pay about OR 700/Month but you need a car there unfortunately there is no public transportaton available. Suggest you ask them for a transporation allowance so you can rent a car. Taxis are another option but can this can be costly. Laughing Arrow

It's a small place with decent (sensible!!) management and some experienced teachers. Two people that I taught with in the past are in the TEFL dept. I believe that there is a transportation allowance as that seems to be standard (and perhaps required?) in Oman contracts. But even if there is one, it won't cover car rental. Crying or Very sad

If you can deal with the low pay, it should be a very good job.

Arabian Hawk,
Do you think 700 is a big deal? CECN and Bahwan pay upto 1300+. Are you not underselling?

WMTN.

Thanks for your comments. Obviously the low salary is a concern. Under 2,000 U.S. a month is not very appealing.

I suspect that Arabian Hawk may just be posting to hear himself talk... so to speak. I know that the pay will be low by Gulf standards, but it must be more than 700. The other private colleges were paying more than that 10 years ago... and it was considered low at the time.

Apply and see what kind of offer you get if you are thinking of moving.

If you want a job with the majority of your colleagues not knowing how to teach and depending on you to help them out, then apply to any of the agencies who offer more money than the tourism college. I know OTC staff there who are happy as they are not locked in all day as in most institutes. They only have to be in college for teaching, prep, and PD. Most teachers have at least one morning free and an early finish at least once a week.

When was the last time you looked at the currency exchange? $ 2,000 US is only 770 Omani Rial. I don't think anyone would accept that. Crying or Very sad

I can assure you that the salary at OTC is a lot more than $ 2,000 US

What does 'lot more' mean? Be specific.
Carrottop,
2000 is institute wages. If you are in Oman for sightseeing it's terrific and will cover everything.

I believe that it is more in the region of $3000 US - but it depends what you are looking for. A well run department or a shambles like the places the agencies put you.

I have confirmed that at OTC the salary is NOT 700 OR and is in line with the rest of the small private colleges. It is over 1000 OR... how much over depends on your credentials.

You might end up with a bit more at the recruiter jobs, but the working and living conditions will be MUCH better at OTC. From the first, it is in Muscat governate and not the hinterlands. For another thing, your fellow teachers will be well vetted. Laughing
