Hello, I am trying to gauge what kind of work I am qualified to get in HK.
I'm a 27 year old male. I have a Bachelor's Degree, a TESL certificate (100 hours + practicum), and I just earned a Master's (M.Ed.) in teaching ESL.
Here's the problem: I have limited work experience. I've been substitute teaching regularly for over a year, I did a 3 week practicum where I taught adult ESL, and I have given some private lessons to kids, but that's about it.
I am in a awkward position where my resume places me right between being extremely qualified (Master's degree), and not being qualified at all (limited work experience).
What are my job prospects? |

Possibly no answers because it was the weekend?
Or because most people are not in a situation of having lots of qualification and little experience?
Most decent jobs I know state they want 2 years experience or more, eg) EDB NET, International schools, British Council.
Only starter jobs with low salaries state they'll take less.
However, the key is 'state'. You might as well apply and see if they'll make exceptions. I don't know anyone else who's gone all the way to a Masters without trying it out a bit more for at least a couple of years, so I can't answer better than that. |
