Hey everyone...
I'm relocating to Mexico City soon, and I was wondering if any of you already there could share some info on how to go about finding decent housing? Are there particular ad sites? Realtors? Any advice would be great. Thanks so much! |

I found my apartment listed on both of these sites:
Metros Cubicos http://www.metroscubicos.com/
El Universal http://www.aviso-oportuno.com.mx/inmuebles/
As a foreigner, it's likely you'll also need a fiador in order to rent a place, but you can find ads for agencies that offer this service at the websites listed above.
Good luck! |

It can take several hours to cross Mexico City, so it would be prudent to avoid committing to an apartment until you have a job, otherwise you could be spending as much time commuting as working. Once you know where you will be working, then look for an apartment nearby or easily reachable by public transit from your workplace. |

Thanks so much for the advice! Does anyone have a lead on an English speaking fiador? I'm in DF looking at apartments, and I'm being quoted astronomical rates. I'm sure it's because I'm a foreigner and my Spanish is limited. I'm wondering if doing the roommate thing or a sublet to start my be a good idea just to have a place to land. I've been telling locals the prices I'm being quoted and they all think it's very funny! |

I just moved into a little flat in Coyoacan right next to the Aztec Stadium. I found it by going to UNAM and looking on the notice boards around the site. Craigslist was also useful too!!
I'm paying 1200 pesos per month including all bils and internet. The family that own my flat even invite me around for dinner most nights of the week! They are desperate to practice their English!
I didn't have to pay a deposit of show any visa or anything like that too.
Down side is that people say that Its a pretty rough part of town. I'm loving it though and the people are really friendly!
Good luck for your search! |

1200 wow thats really cheap. dont expect to pay anything like that price if you need to live in the roma condesa area. In Roma 3000 is standard for a decent room in a decent apartment next to a metro. compartodepa.com (something like that) I found a room on there. i did that for a couple of months till i got to know people, now i have my own place. Are you thinking of doing business english mexpat? thats a long way away |

I've got some work lined up in UNAM, in the environmental dept. Its quite a hike to get anywhere from here! It's just 35 mins there from my house though- 2 bus rides...
I'm loving at the moment but the commuting might become a bit of drag I guess after a bit. Got a few leads in the local(ish) area so just waiting to see what happens!
I have to say I think that I prefer here to Condessa or nearer to the centre. It really feels like a community in that everyone seems to know each other... It feels more like a town. But then there's all the commuting. We'll see! |

If it's good enough, just buy a newspaper and look in the classifieds. Worked for me a few times, like Mexpat. I rented a couple of detached guesthouse type rooms for 1500-1800 in Queretaro with all utilities and cable TV included. No reason to go through an agency and a get a fiador and all that, unless you really want to. |
