I'm a senior in college currently working my way through a CELTA, and I'm particularly interested in teaching English in Bolivia after I graduate at the end of May. If any of you have information about schools, particularly in La Paz or Cochabamba, I would much appreciate if you could share it. I've had a difficult time finding even basic information about Bolivian language schools online, let alone getting information about the reputation of schools from someone who's actually been there.

Thanks,
Chris

I know of one man there in Bolivia. He teaches for free, since he's retired. Money's not that great there. You'll be making about 5 bucks, if that an hourl See my PM

Thanks for the PM. I actually already sent a PM to gambasbo (I assume that's who you're talking about), and he provided a great reference.

If you're interested in working in Santa Cruz, as opposed to La Paz or Cochabamba, you might want to look at the Cambridge College there - they pay pretty well for Bolivia, up to USD 1000 a month. PM me if you want contact details or more info - not sure I'm supposed to be posting web address links here Smile

I don't seem to have enough posts to initiate PMs, so I'll just say here that I'd love contact info.

I didn't get your PM. Maybe you mistyped my name? If you could resend it, that would be excellent.

ChrisO,
I did find these:

http://www.oxfordseminars.com/esl-schools-directory/South_America/Bolivia/3065_La_Paz
You need to be an 'Oxford Seminars' graduate to get more info...

http://www.eslbase.com/schools/bolivia
links to websites on that one.

When are you going to Bolivia? I'm starting to lean towards going to La Paz myself in August.

Thanks for the links! I found this one, which is a list of language schools that teach spanish. However, many of them have english classes, as well.

I'm not completely sure of my timing. I'm graduating college at the very end of May, and I don't want to have too much downtime before I head over. Ideally, I'd like to head over some time in mid June to early July. I'm also leaning somewhat towards La Paz. I think the climate will agree with me a bit more than Cochabamba or Santa Cruz.

Yeah - Santa Cruz is very flat, very wet, very mosquito-y and very, very humid. Has a certain charm but a very different environment to the highlands. Cochabamba is 2500-odd metres up though (from memory) and the climate is much cooler and more pleasant. A friend of mine worked up in the old capital of Sucre, which is really lovely, but unfortunately I don't have any contact details for whatever school it was he worked for there.

Zajko,

I'm also interested in receiving info about Cambridge College in Santa Cruz, but I've got the same problem as the other two...I haven't posted enough yet...to be able to PM you. Would you mind passing the info along to me?

Thanks!
