I hope I can find something in my field and my wife should be able to find something in teaching. Where I am now is wondering where I should look. I have experience in Latin America but I really think Asia looks like the best long term area - but where in Asia? |
How well did you fare in Latin America with the language? You are probably going to need a fair amount of another language to do anything besides teacher. Consider that.
You may also have to get a certain license if you want to continue doing the same work. |
Glenski, although I-m a bit fan of yours, I-m going to have to disagree with you there about the Latin American thing. There are LOTS of expats here. They get recruited abroad and get education expenses, moving, higher salary due to hardship allowances, longer vacation, flights, etc. And you don-t have to speak Spanish.
In Peru, a bit field is mining. These people rake in the dough at 10K a month, free housing as well. Sure, they live in an expat bubble, but they-re making tons of cash.
BUT, you MUST get recruited while abroad. They often have local hires and abroad hires. Guess who gets paid more? even if they have the exact same quals and experience.
As for schools, I think virtual schools are catching on. You could homeschool. I went through CLASS. It had a physically school in IL, and you sent all the papers there. I-ve heard Laura Clone, or something like that, out east is also a physical school that has homeschooling. Keep in mind that once your kids get older, you might need a tutor. How much trig, calculas, physics and bio do you remember? |

I only wrote about the language requirement for non-teachers (whom you said live in an expat bubble, so don't they need Spanish on the job? Or was that only for the mining community?). |

The irony is we home school in the US. The public schools are so bad where we live that you either go private or home school if you want your child to learn anything. I don't mean to be sappy but my hat is off to you teachers. I work in ag and do the survival stuff but you teachers are responsible for human progress and culture. My question is where in the world do you see education valued? I don't see it valued here in the US. Where ever education is truly valued is where the next rising society will be. From a business point of view that is where economic growth is most likely to occur. Please tell me, you global teachers, where do you see this? Thanks. |

YOu-d be surprised how many people can live overseas and never learn the language. If they get into the expat bubble, chances are that they either
1. work with poeple who speak decent English , or perfect English
2. have an interpreter
Either way, it-s an excuse for them not to learn the local langauge. Not a good excuse, but still an excuse |
