I'm planning on moving to Asia to teach english in the next few months (Taiwan is my first choice)...I would prefer to have a job set up before I go, but I'm curious as to what documentation you need in order to obtain a visa through your employer. I got a DUI over 3 years ago and I'm wondering if that will effect my chances. I'm really looking forward to teaching abroad and I would be devastated if this one mistake ruined my chances. If anyone knows anything about DUIs and teaching in Asia, particularly Taiwan, your advice would be greatly appreciated! |

Don't sweat it - first of all Taiwan doesn't require a background police / criminal check and secondly even if they did I reckon they'd be checking for deviant tendencies with kids rather than DUI. |

So did you end up going to Taiwan? Was the DUI an issue? |
