Actually I think it would be electronic rather than electric... since it uses batteries instead of having to plug it in. May I introduce you to... google? or Wikipedia? It's tough keeping up with things these days...

Kindle... I'm tellin' ya... a Kindle is the "must have" item for the ME teacher. If only they had had it back in my day. I can't tell you how many bad books I had to read because there was nothing else around.

VS, I'm told by an owner of the Kindle and the Sony versions that Kindles can't download in the Gulf--at least not in Saudi. Is that not true for the Emirates? |

There have been people who had them there, but don't recall what they said on this. That wouldn't really matter IMHO... oce could load it up on summer leave and read through it during the year.

Dear Sheik,
According to this Amazon site, the new Kindle has coverage in Saudi and the UAE
Hello to the Newest Kindle
Slim: Just over 1/3 of an inch, as thin as most magazines
Lightweight: At 10.2 ounces, lighter than a typical paperback
Books in Under 60 Seconds: Get books delivered wirelessly in less than 60 seconds; no PC required
3G Wireless: 3G wireless lets you download books right from your Kindle; no annual contracts, no monthly fees, and no hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots
Global Coverage: Enjoy 3G wireless coverage at home or abroad in over 100 countries. See details. Check wireless coverage map.
Paper-Like Display: Reads like real paper without glare, even in bright sunlight
Carry Your Library: Holds up to 1,500 books
Longer Battery Life: Now read for up to 1 week on a single charge with wireless on, a significant improvement from the previous battery life of 4 days

Now there's the iPad, and it apparently is "supported" in Saudi

Most useful, John--thanks. You have now redeemed yourself after so many posts featuring poetry
Much of the Emirates appears covered by the 3G application, while only about half of Saudi is covered by the slower 2g. |
