Hi, I'm graduating from a Canadian University in Ontario this May. I should be getting my teaching certificate in June. From the little bit of research I've done, it seems most international schools require at least two years of teaching experience. The only experience I have is my 10 week practicum. I have a couple of questions:

Is it possible to get a job at a international school without any experience?

If I took an TEFL job overseas, would international schools count this experience?

I was thinking of taking a job in the UK and teaching their curriculum. Would international schools count this experience?

From what I've heard in Japan, the experience must have been in your home country.

Can you still get a job at an IS? Maybe, but be very careful about who they are. Here, some places call themselves "international school", but it's in name only.

I am extremely interested in this question as well. I intend to go back to California and get a credential and masters, but the prospect of actually getting a job there afterwards is looking increasingly dire, if not outright impossible.

(I know I can go to another state, Texas actually looks like they have a healthy secondary schools job market these days, but it would kind of defeat the purpose of returning "home", albeit for just a few years, since that is California, with family, friends, and history.)
