May I ask, what qualifications and experience enabled you to secure your appointment at your university in the Middle East? What salary (gross/nett.) did you start earning with those quals & exp.

You may not have noticed the search function at the top of the page. If you use it you should be able to find several recent forums that address these questions. Then you will be able to focus your questions on the areas of specific interest to you.

Yes, you really need to take some time reading here to focus your question. But, basically you need an MA in TEFL/Applied Linguistics and at least 3 years of related experience - post MA. By that it means teaching Academic English at university level. Reading/writing experience is a plus. (conversations class will barely even count)

Once one has the proper credentials, in the Gulf, the pay is from US$2500-5000 to start depending on years of experience and the particular university and country.

There is no gross/net... it is all tax-free. Plus there is the normal benefit package of free furnished housing, tickets, medical, gratuity, and 45-60 days of paid holiday in the summer.
