This is definately the latest as I know of a teacher who worked for another HEI and now wants to return. Her degree is in French and she has not been approved even with 3+ years working in this other HEI + CELTA.

My degree is not in TEFL and yet it was approved by the MOE in Oman two years ago when I applied for a job with a private university.

Did I say something wrong? Way off the topic? Too tangential?

There are plenty of teaching jobs in Oman. Hawthorn in Muscat is now recruiting for teachers but Bahwan Cybertek pays the best! Laughing Laughing

So with a first degree in the Liberal Arts, a CELTA, and a master's degree in progress (International Business, not TESOL), and 5 years teaching post CELTA, do I fit the requirements for MoE, MoM, neither, or both?

The last recruiter I heard from wants five years experience certificates from previous employers. It sounds rather rigid, although I suspect it is just pro forma. Any idea what the actual government requirements are for the work permit?

Considering that I could get more money in SA, this sounds like a lot of trouble.

I heard through the grapevine that if you are applying to a college which has to get approval for your work visa from the Min Higher Edu you need the following minimal qualifications and they have to be attested:-

A first degree in English or TESOL
a CELTA / Trinity Cert TEFL (recommended by Accreditation Council)

Of course if you come with one of the 'agencies' you are under the Min of Manpower and are sent to certain MOM colleges, you need don't your papers attested etc... But of course these colleges which use 'agencies' have failed their accreditation!!!!!! ( I wonder why???) Wink

It's a tough job market out there right now. Sees like half the ME agencies and HR departments are increasing their desired length of instructional experience in the ME. Used to be a 2 year min. I've read a few of late that are looking for 4, even 5+ years.

VS is right though: timing is everything when applying.
