I am told that there are some provinces in China where my age (63) will not be a problem given my vast teaching experience.

Does anyone KNOW which provinces/cities/schools these are?

Wuhan City in Hubei Province - I should know, since I've been here more than eight years, am currently in my third full-time job in the city (and that has lasted almost five years alone), and have had quite a number of 60-somethings as colleagues during that time in all three places I have worked on behalf of, including a few who started out as EFL teachers despite being already of state retirement age, all of them men.

There are only two provinces where you absolutely cannot get an FEC if you are over 60 and they are Liaoning and Fujian and last year Liaoning made an exception for me but I did not take the job.

Beijing and Guangzhou regularly waive the rule.

The point is the contradiction. There are no absolutes in China

It doesn't depend on the province, it depends on the school.

Several teachers in Hainan over 60 -- one is about 72, I think.

That doesn't mean it won't be a problem.

But if you look healthy and vigorous, you might do ok. They mainly don't want a teacher who's too tired to keep up with the students, or an old fuddy-duddy, or someone who is subject to illness.
