With the earlier Ramadan now affecting school/college start ups, the new Academic year will start at HCT 2 weeks later than usual on Sept 13th. The only problem being that with HCT 'day counting' leave system the overwhelming majority of faculty will have two choices given that the end of this academic year is quite early, on June 10th.
1. Come back in around mid-August after 7 or 8 weeks away and have 4 or 5 weeks for 'Professional Development' or whatever colleges will cook up!
or
2. Take extra leave and go into a minus leave balance, which incidentally would benefit HCT in the longer run because it means less money to pay out when staff leave! (If not made up in future years)

Of course if you work for UAEU and I suspect ZU, staff will be given 10 or 11 weeks off as a whole block. Another factor which might make HCT recruitment more difficult??

Don't see how it can affect recruitment as this will be a bit of a one-off, but it will affect morale. Few things inspire gloom and general dislike of management more than enforced presenteeism.

This year will be the last of real scheduling problems. Next year the Eid will be the first week of September and by 2012, it will be in the summer for a few years and only affect those places that have summer school.

Of course then it will start coming at the end of the second semester. Always great when Ramadhan and the Eid coincide with final exams - about 2017 or so. Now there is something to look forward to... Laughing
