Children of Hajj Over-stayers in Hijaz Region ( Makka, Madina, Jeddah and some in Taif) is the sad forgotten side of the story. Guess what! No one cared, cares or will care to address the issue, simply because they are not Saudis.
For those of you who lived- or are still living- in Makka or Jeddah, have you even noticed the children with missing limbs!! Have you thought how many times you have seen the same!! Have you even thought that there is a typical pattern in the shape of the deformity? Which makes me suspect that what one of my Saudi students in Jeddah told me once that these poor little childrens hands or legs were systematically and deliberately amputated, so that they will be prepared for the begging industry. YES! It is a fully-fledged industry in Jeddah and Makka, with gangs and area lords.
Next time when you stop on the traffic light in Jeddah, look around and see.

It is always the 'foreigners' in SA causing mischief and breaking laws!

Quote:
I asked them what they were doing and they told me that they were collecting metal and plastic cans and putting them in plastic bags. I found out later on that some foreigners in a truck would arrive and take the bags from them.

Quote:
There are two possible explanations for this trend. Either the parents of these children ask them to do so for money, or they fall prey to the promise of financial rewards by foreign laborers who roam residential districts looking for metal, he said, adding it was probably the latter.

There is always a foreigner to blame for any problem in KSA.

That's because trouble normally requires work.

It WAS a link to a story in the "Green Truth" about children recycling garbage. Now when you click on it you are taken to the current issue. Enjoy.
Reading it this way saves you 2 SR a day or 60 SR a month. You are now on the path to membership of the Fellowship of Five Hundred.

Dear scot47,

That's just recycled news.

Speaking of conservation, why spend 2 SR when you can get the paper (which one colleague of mine fondly referred to as "The Arab Snooze") online? Of course, then you can't do the crossword too easily.

Regards,
John

My neighbour - now retired to Manchester, England, - used to rummage through the rubbish to recycle my old copies of the "Arabsnooze".

And he was one of those who used to make remarks about "mean Scotsmen" !

Dear scot47,

There are some who seem to find comfort in blinding themselves to their own faults by pretending to see those same, repugnant defects in others.

Not ME, of course.

Regards,
John
