It seems from this post that perhaps direct hire jobs have their salaries more defined, hence the "take it or leave it approach" mentioned. |
I dunno. I would say you're far more likely to be able to succesfuly negotiate a package with a direct hire than with a recruiter, who is at least one remove from the employer. The people I know who've negotiated salaries have all been direct hires. |

Definitely negotiate on direct hire as they'll offer a minimum and probably expect you to come back with "I've had a better offer elsewhere, so...?"
BTW, Jeddah employs guys known as the 'Dengue Fever Squad' who go around fumigating places with sewage outlets (ie. the streets). The squad weren't paid for a few months and recently went on strike. |

For jobs in government institutions there are pay scales. When you get a civil service or teaching job in Britain or the US, you do not expect to negotiate a salary. It is not so different in KSA - at least in state sector jobs. |

I agree. You're much more likely to be able to negotiate your salary in a private instituion. Alhough they have pay scales too, they're more likely to be flexible with them if they want you badly enough. |

Thanks... this has been informative! Yet, only one person gave me a riyal figure for what those qualifications might be worth.
Taboo question or everyone agrees with the 12-15 range? |

The only way you can know is to apply to various places and see what, if anything they offer you. But I agree that somewhere between 12,000-15,000SR per month - plus housing, transport and at least 45 days summer hols - sounds about right. |

Yes, perhaps I should have made it clear that my range was for the basic salary...if you really strike gold, you may be able to get 16K, maybe up to 20K if you get Aramco, but hardly the norm. |
